I admit to being a sucker for the "here's the best version of _____" threads. I love to hear everyone's recommendations.

Where does this version stand in the pantheon of GDTRFBs (4/23/77 - Springfield, MA)?

5/19/74 could be considered the most "rockin'" GDTRFB:

I've said this before , as time went on it lost that rolling, bitter-sweet, country, gliding, cruising, s m o o t h feel, and became more rushed and choppy . That said ,the ones with Bruce, are pretty enjoyable . In 77, they still had the "feel", and yes those early Keith ones from 71 are just wonderful .

10/31/71 might be the very best, the jam is extremely well developed.

Late '71 is certainly a sweet spot for the NFA/GDTRFB medley. They played a couple very good ones in Ohio during that October.

And the Harding Theater performance sure is another real nice one...

Agree- this one is a real rock'n'roll firestorm. 71's are very high energy.

I would like to highlight one of strat's picks, 9-19-90. I have ranted about the butchering of this show (R.T. 2.1) for over a year now and this is but one reason why. This is a tremendous GDTRFB! (I mean IMHBTR, which is a wet blanket to me, was great in the first set. So was the H>S>F to end the first set. And the Jack Straw to open....) The Stella and a 10' Around to close it out were superfragilistic .

This date and 3-24-90 (Dozin') were both butchered and quartered. They are The shows that year that needed the full show treatment.

Here is the best AUD. Please listen to the first 3' (at least) as it is Dance yer butt off really good.

The Tapers from Hell source is close in quality.
